For about 15 years, every taping of Austin City Limits, Austin PBS’s long-running music show, has had a custom screen printed poster (see some on the ACLTV website). I’ve been fortunate to work on several ACL posters as well as other event and commemorative posters.

Most of the illustrated posters here went from approved sketch or rough design to final art at the printer in a few days, often with little initial design direction but multiple rounds of management approvals. With most posters, I start by reviewing album art, social media, web presence, and recent merchandise (including popular fan-made works, when I can!). I always sketch by hand, even if it’s on my iPad, before I start bringing the final work together.

When I started at Austin PBS, I didn’t imagine I’d be designing music and event posters, but despite the challenges, they’re among my favorite work and experiences. Some of these posters, and a brief essay about my experience designing for ACL, are published in Screen to Screen: The Poster Art of Austin City Limits from UT Press.
