Austin PBS

Creating promotional social media graphics and merchandise for events at the new home of Austin PBS, the Austin Media Center.

The Austin Media Center opened in August, 2022 and hosts events for Austin PBS and the local community. I create print, web, and broadcast graphics to support Austin PBS events.

Central Texas Gardener

Central Texas Gardener is one of Austin PBS’s most beloved and longest-running shows, with over 30 years of history. However, it had been years since Austin PBS offered updated merchandise to fans. I was asked to create a new design to debut and sell at the Austin Media Center’s Grand Opening. As a gardener and fan of the show, I was thrilled to work with producer Linda Lehmusvirta to illustrate a new way for viewers to support and show their love for CTG.

Drafts

In early designs, I sketched options highlighting garden tools, seed packets, vegetables, and focusing on Central Texas’s unique native plants and landscape. I brought these two options to the program’s producer, Linda Lehmusvirta for the final decision and feedback.

Final Design

My final illustration highlights native Texas flowers and insects, as well as a nod to a frequent (and fan favorite) guest on the show, Augie the dachshund.

The shirt was offered in two colorways and sold out of its first print run. The story of the shirt and a peek at my own garden were featured on the Central Texas Gardener blog.

In addition to Augie the dachshund, a bee, and a sulphur butterfly, here’s the full list of featured native wildflowers:
Mexican Hat Ratibida columnifera
Pink Evening Primrose Oenothera speciosa
White Pricklypoppy Argemone albiflora
Lemon Beebalm Monarda citriodora
Texas Bluebonnet Lupinus texensis
Prairie Verbena Glandularia bipinnatifida
Rain Lily Cooperia pedunculata
Texas Thistle Cirsium texanum
Firewheel Gaillardia pulchella

Motion Graphics

I animated the logo, designed by Red Velvet Events, for use on sponsor video screens in the building lobby and promotional web and broadcast video. Additionally, I created a suite of social media graphics promoting the event and honoring sponsors.

Made in austin

motion graphics

Made in Austin is an evergreen campaign as well as the title of an event hosted by Austin PBS to highlight locally-produced shows. For its first year in 2023, I designed the overall look and created the following two motion graphics pieces to establish the motion style for the campaign.

The footage of Willie Nelson is provided by Austin City Limits and is used in broadcast and web promotion for the campaign.

The Austin city drone footage was taken by Jonathan Jackson. I edited the footage to loop behind the logo animation and sponsor reel, which were created to play on video screens in the lobby of the Austin Media Center for the Made in Austin event.
